A Theory of Rational Altruism

We build a framework to analyze the effect of social structures on the existence, location, and extend of altruism. We derive an iterative program to solve for the best response function under any social structure. We show how to use the model to understand the existence of different altruistic behaviors in different social structures. We also provide positive and normative theorems for arbitrary large economies.
