What is MIPP?

The Institute for Research on Market Imperfections and Public Policy (MIPP) is an academic center that develops and disseminates knowledge in Economics and related fields. The Institute is funded by the Millennium Scientific Initiative and ANID; and is hosted by the Universidad de Chile, Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Department of Industrial Engineering. MIPP was created in 2015 by a group of economists from the most prestigious Universities in Chile.

MIPP researchers develop frontier research, addressing the most challenging issues in areas such as: Political Economy, Market Design and Regulation, Data and Public Policy. As a result of the research generated, researchers present at prestigious conferences worldwide, as well as publish in top academic journals in Economics, Political Science and Administration.

The Institute generates methodological tools that provide relevant information for decision-making in the public, private and agency sectors. The continuous collaboration between MIPP and the public and private sectors eliminates the barrier between academic work and the development of practical applications.

MIPP workshops and seminars provide an international platform for discussing various problems in Economics and related disciplines. The extensive network of collaborators and international visitors at the Institute make MIPP an intellectually vibrant and stimulating place.

Education is central to MIPP. Master's and PhD students working closely with researchers benefit from the academic environment that MIPP generates. The Institute also organizes activities and economic meetings to make research known to a wider audience, including economics courses for high school teachers, business people and journalists.
